Chronic fatigue syndrome

How can Perrin Technique help with CFS/ME?

The Perrin Technique™ is based on Dr Perrin’s theory that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalopathy (CFS/ME) results from dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system, secondary to a combination of stress factors and poor lymphatic drainage. The stress factors can be physical (through postural problems or injury), emotional (work, family), environmental (exposure to toxins), or an overloaded immune system from fighting an allergy or an infection.

The systematic approach applied in the Perrin Technique™ works on the basis of using osteopathic techniques to promote healthy functioning of the sympathetic nervous system and the lymphatic system together with alleviating physical stressors.

This video will provide a two minute introduction to the Sympathetic nervous system:

What will happen during the session?

The first session is 90 minutes long and involves taking a full case history and examination. We will discuss how your condition impacts you as an individual and the research that supports this treatment approach. Based on this appointment we will give you an idea of prognosis and how long it would be before we would expect to see results from treatment in your individual case.

The examination involves a postural assessment. We will look at how you move and use your joints and muscles. It also involves an examination of the lymphatic vessels in your neck and breast. You may want to consider bringing a chaperone with you to the appointment and you will be asked to sign a consent form.

Please be aware that there will be no treatment during the first appointment as the assessment is quite lengthy and it is important that you have time to go away and consider all of the information before deciding whether you are happy to proceed with this treatment approach.
